Cyber criminals gained unauthorized access to some customer data in ABC Health’s IT system. On March 15, we noticed suspicious claims activity and immediately launched an investigation, bringing in cyber experts to help us. We discovered a small number of our employees were targeted and fell victim to phishing emails in January 2021. Once an employee clicked a link in the phishing email their login credentials were compromised and cyber criminals were able to gain access to some customer data. Upon discovery, we immediately took action to block access.
The cyber criminals may have accessed personal information such as first and last name, date of birth, address, phone number, and checking and savings account information.
The investigation is still in the discovery phase, but we anticipate a significant impact. We will provide more information as we confirm it.
We estimate about 5 million people could be affected. That includes current and former ABC Health plan members, and members of other ABC Health plans who sought treatment in our service areas.
ABC Health will officially notify people affected by this incident and offer one year of free credit protection services.
There is currently no evidence that the information has been used in an inappropriate way but as an extra assurance, we are offering one year of free credit protection for anyone impacted by this event.
